AUPHA is pleased to announce the launch of the new Advocacy page on the website devoted to advocacy efforts that benefit healthcare management students, faculty, and the profession as a whole. In particular, the page outlines AUPHA's current efforts advocating that degrees in healthcare management should be classified as "professional" under the new federal student loan caps. Included is an explanation of the issue; AUPHA's response and communication with the Department of Education; frequently asked questions; and actions individuals can take to add their voice to these efforts, along with a social media toolkit and the graphic below.

AUPHA is pleased to announce that the 2026 William B. Graham Prize for Health Services Research is Michael E. Chernew, PhD. Dr. Chernew is the Leonard D. Schaeffer Professor of Health Care Policy and the director of the Healthcare Markets and Regulation Lab in the Department of Health Care Policy at Harvard Medical School. Applications for the 2026 Glandon Family Scholarship for Advancement of Healthcare Management Education are now being accepted. The scholarship is awarded yearly to a full-time faculty member from an AUPHA member program who has not yet received tenure. Completed applications must be received by Wednesday, April 1, 2026, 11:59PM (Pacific time). AUPHA would like to thank the programs that completed the 2024-2025 Annual Survey. This year’s response rate of 73.1% is the highest since AUPHA launched its new survey in 2021. Importantly, the post-graduate data on employment and fellowships will be used to support AUPHA’s advocacy efforts related to graduate student loan caps. Programs that complete the most recent Annual Survey are eligible for free access to AUPHA’s Data Warehouse, which provides de-identified raw data from several past AUPHA surveys. AUPHA’s Leadership Academy is introducing several new courses throughout 2026, including a special seminar for practitioners and a full course in-person at ACHE’s Congress in Houston, Texas, this March. Leadership Academy participants can pursue the Certificate for Leadership in Healthcare Management Education, a credential that signals an individual’s commitment to developing their academic leadership skills. The Art of Teaching Institute (ATI), powered by AUPHA, provides faculty, doctoral students, and practitioners interested in supporting academia an opportunity to hone their skills in the classroom. With courses developed and taught by leaders in the field, the ATI offers a unique opportunity to engage in professional development that focuses specifically on teaching healthcare management in engaging and meaningful ways. Participants can pursue the Certificate for Teaching in Healthcare Management to demonstrate their commitment to this craft. AUPHA’s efforts to increase visibility in the field, as well as encourage master's program members to take advantage of this free service, have proven to be successful thus far. HAMPCAS continues to show increased application volume, with current application numbers as of February 3, 2026, reaching the highest point-in-time total ever. AUPHA will host a graduate program information session this spring to allow prospective students the opportunity to learn more about pursuing a master’s degree in healthcare management. Holiday Office Closure

After another busy fall, AUPHA is taking a much-needed break from scheduled Zoom meetings beginning Thursday, December 18 until Tuesday, January 6. This hiatus will also accommodate the holiday closing of AUPHA's office beginning Monday, December 22. We will return to the office formally on Monday, January 5 .
