Dr. Olena Mazurenko is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management. She holds a PhD in Health Care Administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, a medical degree in the specialty of Internal Medicine from Ukraine, and completed her Master’s degree in International Health in Germany. Prior to joining IU, Mazurenko was an Assistant Professor of Health Care Administration and Policy at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Dr. Mazurenko’s research examines patient experiences in various healthcare settings, such as patient-centered medical home or hospital. Additionally, her research analyzes the population of medical professionals who received their training overseas but currently practice in United States, i.e. International Medical Graduates (IMG) and Foreign Trained Nurses (FTN). She is also involved in research that analyzes the issue of employee job satisfaction and turnover by applying it to the different health systems, e.g. industrialized versus developing countries. Dr. Mazurenko regularly publishes in various peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Healthcare Management, Journal of Healthcare Management Review, and Journal of Hospital Administration. She frequently presents her research at national and international meetings, such as the AcademyHealth, Academy of Management, and the European Academy of Management. Dr. Mazurenko is a reviewer for leading journals in the healthcare management field, including the Journal of Healthcare Management, Journal of Healthcare Management Review, and American Journal of Public Health.
Dr. Mazurenko has taught courses in human resource management, strategic management and introduction to health care system at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
