Current and aspiring Department Chairs will have an opportunity to convene and engage in peer learning as part of the Leadership Academy course, The Established Leader: Department Chairs, following the close of AUPHA’s Annual Meeting on Thursday, June 11, 2026.
Developed and taught by three experienced Department Chairs, this course equips current or future department chairs with the knowledge, skills, behaviors and strategies required to effectively navigate the role of leader of an academic department that includes health administration as a core focus. Participants will learn about the benefits and challenges of transitioning from faculty member to department chair, the roles and responsibilities of a department chair, and best-practices and strategies for managing the department’s processes and strategic directions, managing others, and managing their own careers and well-being.
Leadership Academy participants can pursue the Certificate for Leadership in Healthcare Management Education, a credential that signals an individual’s commitment to developing their academic leadership skills. For more information on the Certificate, please visit the Leadership Academy page on AUPHA’s website.
Registration for all upcoming courses can be found on the events tab of the AUPHA online store.
