Registration for AUPHA’s 2025 Academic Program and Practitioner Workshop (APPW), scheduled to be held during ACHE’s 2025 Congress in Houston, Texas, is open. The Workshop will be held at the Marriott Marquis Houston on Tuesday, March 25th. You are encouraged to register by March 4, 2025, before rates increase. For the first time this fall, AUPHA hosted three Graduate Program Information Sessions geared towards undergraduate students considering graduate school. These sessions attracted approximately 60 unique prospective students and featured 30 programs using HAMPCAS. AUPHA will host a pre-certification webinar on Friday, February 28, 2025, 12-1:30PM Eastern Time. All undergraduate program members are invited to attend to learn more about the certification process and the implementation of changes approved by AUPHA’s Board of Directors in March 2024. The deadline for submission of AUPHA’s Annual Survey has been extended to Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at 11:59PM Pacific Time . All full undergraduate program members must complete the survey to remain certified. Other program members are strongly encouraged to complete the survey, as it provides a detailed look at the field of healthcare management and leadership, with de-identified aggregate data published each year in AUPHA’s Annual Report. Last year, 68.8% of AUPHA’s member programs completed the survey. Benchmarking data appears in the 2023-2024 Annual Survey starting on page 12 and is divided into undergraduate and masters programs. AUPHA’s Leadership Academy will offer Advanced 21st Century Leadership in person in Houston, Texas, this March in conjunction with ACHE’s Congress. This course, developed and taught by Gerry Ibay, MHA, JD, and Halley Reeves, MPH, MCP, both of The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, explores advanced principles of leadership, including a deep dive into emotional intelligence, effective communication, difficult conversations, and teamwork, as well as the additional topics of talent management and fostering inclusive environments. Registration is now open for several courses in AUPHA’s Art of Teaching Institute (ATI) in 2025, including an in-person course in Houston, Texas, this March. Making It Real: Approaches and Methods for Integrating Practice and Practitioners into Courses provides participants concrete strategies for helping students understand the “real world” applications of classroom concepts. After a busy fall, AUPHA is taking a much-needed break from scheduled Zoom meetings beginning Tuesday, December 17 through Monday, January 6. This hiatus will also accommodate the holiday closing of AUPHA's office beginning Monday, December 23. We will return to the office formally on Thursday, January 2, although staff may use vacation to take the remainder of that week off. The AUPHA staff wishes you all a very happy holiday season. ACHE awards up to fifteen Albert W. Dent and Foster G. McGaw Graduate Student Scholarships every year. Each scholarship is valued at $5,000! Beginning January 2, 2025, eligible students can apply on the ACHE Scholarships page . Eligibility Requirements Applicants must be enrolled in their final year of full-time study in a healthcare management graduate program (MHA, MPH, MBA in healthcare administration, or a similar program). HIMSS-25 will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada, March 3rd – 6th. The 20th Academic Forum will be held in-person on Monday March 3, from 12:00Noon to 5pm (Pacific time) at the Wynn Hotel, Roederer Room, Lower Promenade. AUPHA will once again participate as a "collaborator". The AUPHA Academic Forum registration fee is only $85 for faculty and $25 for students who are currently enrolled. AUPHA is pleased to announce that Nancy Borkowski, DBA, Distinguished Professor at The University of Alabama at Birmingham, has been named the 2025 recipient of the Gary L. Filerman Prize for Educational Leadership . Nancy is a long-time member of AUPHA, a former Board member and Treasurer, and has been very active on numerous committees, including the Board's Global Leadership Committee. In 2024, 107 AUPHA member programs awarded $137,000 in Foster G. McGaw Scholarships to 214 students. AUPHA Full Graduate , Full Certified Undergraduate , and Associate Doctoral programs are eligible to award scholarships.
