Elizabeth H. Bradley, PhD, President of Vassar College, has been named the 2018 recipient of the William B. Graham Prize for Health Services Research . Applications for the HCA Corris Boyd Scholars Program are now open. Each recipient will receive a $40,000 scholarship (paid in four installments) towards tuition and other expenses at the AUPHA full-member graduate school program of his or her choice. The 2018 Graduate Program and Practitioner Workshop (formerly known as Leaders Conference) will be held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Chicago on Tuesday, March 27, in conjunction with ACHE’s Congress. In addition to the keynote speaker, David B. Nash , MD, MPA, Dean of the Jefferson College of Population Health, the Workshop will feature a program focusing on difficult conversations – both those planned and unplanned. ​ The AUPHA Board of Directors, at their meeting earlier this week, approved a request to advance the recently formed Interprofessional Education Discussion Group to a Faculty Forum.  The Board voted to bypass the normal process of transition from a discussion group to a fully developed Forum as the topic of Interprofessional Education has been an item on the Board’s agenda since June of 2017. An organizational meeting of the new Forum will be held at the 2018 Annual Meeting in Philadelphia.

​ New Year, New Beginnings, and a chance to Look Forward Last week, the semester started at Winthrop and, as I have for many years, I showed the Did You Know (Shift Happens) video in the Introduction to Healthcare Management Class.  The first video came out in 2007 and was created by Karl Fisch, and modified by Scott McLeod.  I show this video to start a discussion with students, specifically focusing on two key facts.  The first is we are currently preparing students for jobs that don’t yet exist, using technologies that have not yet been invented. Eric earned his PhD in Behavioral Decision Research from Carnegie Mellon University in 2015 and completed a two year post-doctoral fellowship at the School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, VA Center for Health Equity Research & Promotion. At their January 2018 meeting, the Finance Committee and the Board of Directors approved the 2018 allocation of funds for the Foster G. McGaw Scholarships . Full Graduate Program members and Full Certified Undergraduate Program members are eligible to award McGaw Scholarships.
